Toronto’s Tyler Bertuzzi has been red hot since joining Auston Matthews on the Leafs’ top line with nine goals and 14 points over his last 16 games
Wednesday is the second-last day of the NHL regular season with just four matchups on the slate and little to play for besides playoff seeding for the remaining Western Conference teams left to play. The Blues will make the Stars have to earn their points in what will be a tight, physical matchup while the Oilers play the Arizona Coyotes in possibly their last game in the Desert.
Teams like the Blues and Coyotes will look to end their season on a high-note and cause some trouble to the teams going into the postseason dance. It should make for an exciting night of games that we look to profit from as we've caught fire over the past several days.
The Pad Stacking Challenge continues it's hot streak as the initial $10 bet has been rolled into $105 and is in the cusp of setting a new all-time high which is previously set at $210 in one roll. The Best Bets are starting the catch the same fire over the past few days with a 8-2 record.
All betting lines are from BetMGM and are subject to change. Hockey is a difficult sport to predict so please gamble responsibly.
Bet: Tyler Bertuzzi Over 0.5 points (-120)
The Lightning are opting to save Star netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy for the playoffs and start 29-year-old Matt Tomkins, who has started just five games this season and reps a 3.19 goals against average and a .891 save percentage.
He’s won just two of his five starts which is disappointing considering his starts were against Montreal, Ottawa and Columbus who all rank bottom seven in the league. It will be a much steeper challenge for Tomkins as the Leafs have the best road offense in the league this season, averaging 3.58 goals per game.
This presents a very good chance for Toronto’s Auston Matthews to score his 70th goal of the season with a benefactor of the goal being winger Tyler Bertuzzi.
The Sudbury native has hit his stride since joining Matthews on the top line with a majority of his points this season coming in the second half.
He has continued his stellar play with nine goals and 14 points over his last 16 games and should hopefully help Matthews reach the 70-goal mark with an assist.
Bet: Blues Stars Under 6.5 goals (-130)
The Blues came up short on making the last Wild Card spot in the West as they made an exciting late season push where they went 11-4-2 over their last 17 games. Their defensive game came alive with a 2.88 goals against average that helped them limit teams like the Bruins, Kings, Golden Knights and Oilers to two or fewer goals.
They will have to keep their defensive game strong when going against a top three offense in the Stars. When these two met up earlier this season, the Blues did just that as they shut down the Dallas offense and walked away with a surprising 2-1 victory.
It was their fifth win over their last nine matchups against Dallas and will make the Stars want to bring the heat that much more in their regular season finale. When playing at home, the Stars rarely allow opposing offenses to heat up with a goals against average of 2.30 over their last ten home games.
Both teams have red hot defensive units coming into tonight and have a history of low-scoring games with all but two of their last ten matchups having fewer than seven goals. Everything seemingly points to the under as the best play.
