Despite winning the organization's second Stanley Cup in 2026, the Carolina Hurricanes still have something to prove entering the new season. It was a dominant run for the team, but everywhere you look, doubters question the easy path to the final and the Vegas Golden Knights waiting for them when they got there. Despite the doubters, losing just three games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is more than enough reason to believe that it is sustainable. 

The Eastern Conference has had its share of mini-dynasties in the 2020s, with the Tampa Bay Lightning dominating the first three years of the decade, followed by the Panthers' two Stanley Cups and three final appearances. The Hurricanes will do their best to follow in those footsteps, but it may not be as easy this season with the Atlantic Division looking like it could be great once again. 

In the meantime, will the Metropolitan Division be any bit of a challenge for the Hurricanes? Let's take a look at a couple of future bets to exploit one of the league's weaker divisions overall.

If the books are willing to give you the Hurricanes at plus odds to win the Metropolitan Division, you have no choice but to take it. It isn't easy to win the division, but Carolina really had no competition last season in a year where teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers had Cinderella years to make the playoffs. 

After finishing 15 points ahead of those two teams and 18 points ahead of the Washington Capitals, who may be the only team to come close to challenging them this year, it's difficult to see anyone closing the gap on Carolina. As long as Brandon Bussi continues his success and Pyotr Kochetkov stays healthy, the Hurricanes will run the Metro once again. 

It's obvious now that I am still high on the Hurricanes going into the 2026-27 season. While everyone forgets about them for the revamped Panthers with Brady Tkachuk and the rest of the Atlantic Division, the Hurricanes are still the team to beat until proven otherwise. The Hurricanes' White Whale has been the Panthers, and they should now have the confidence to take them on in a seven-game series. 

In this scenario, the Panthers get through the Atlantic, setting up the matchup everyone wants to see in the East final. However, despite the consensus, the Hurricanes shock them by sticking to their game and letting the collection of goons that Florida's front office created take themselves out of the series with their shenanigans.

If the Hurricanes make it to the conference final again to lose to the Panthers, it'll prove to everyone that 2025-26 was just a fluke against weaker competition, and I think Rod Brind'Amour's team is well aware of that. 

The Panthers will likely take a piece out of the Hurricanes, setting Carolina up to fall short in the finals, which is why we are neglecting a Stanley Cup bet here.
