Sportsbooks reveal head-to-head prop bet between former teammates in Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.

The NHL’s 2025–26 season hasn’t even started, but the oddsmakers are already fueling one of the most intriguing individual matchups in recent memory: who will score more points between former teammates in Mitch Marner or Auston Matthews?

Following Marner’s high-profile move to the Vegas Golden Knights, sportsbooks have opened a new prop bet on FanDuel Sportsbook with Marner listed as the favorite at −142 to finish with more points than his former Toronto Maple Leafs teammate, Auston Matthews, who’s listed with +120 odds. Marner is coming off a career-best season in which he posted a career-high 102 points, including 27 goals and 75 assists, through 81 games.

Despite being limited by injuries, Matthews still managed to record 33 goals and 45 assists for 78 points in 67 games. In comparison, the previous season he posted an impressive 107 points with 69 goals and 38 assists in 81 games. With both seasons considered, a fully healthy campaign in each would likely have resulted in a very close race in total points.

Marner’s offseason departure from Toronto only adds more intrigue as he was involved with a sign-and-trade where he signed a eight-year, $96 million contract, then was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in a deal that brought forward Nicolas Roy back to Toronto.

Over his nine seasons with the Maple Leafs, Marner established himself as one of the most dynamic forwards in the league with 741 points through 657 games, and added 63 points (13 goals, 50 assists) in 70 playoff games.

Matthews remains the face of the Maple Leafs, but questions linger about whether he can return to his peak form due to his injuries and recent lackluster play since being named the captain. The 27-year-old center has scored 401 goals and dished for 326 assists totalling 727 points in 629 NHL games, including two 60-goal seasons.

While Matthews will always be a goal-scoring threat, his recent injury history and changing line combinations in Toronto may limit his upside as he's seeing a downgrade moving from playing with Marner to newcomer from Utah Matias Maccelli. Marner will now get to play with a similar talent in Jack Eichel and will have 35-goal scorer Pavel Dorofeyev on his opposite wing. The early edge goes to Marner but this race will be a tight one.
