Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon currently has the best odds to win the Art Ross trophy for most points in a season

The Cole Harbour native has once again shown he is one of the best hockey players in the world as he's almost fully stopped scoring goals and is still first place in the league for points with seven goals and 28 assists for 35 points in 21 games.

Nathan MacKinnon has yet to take home the Art Ross award for most points in the NHL but has come close on several occasions with 140 points last season and recorded 111 points the season prior.

The 29-year-old may finally be due for his award win as he currently sits as the betting favourite with +175 odds. He still hasn't fully tapped into his elite scoring potential this season as he rides a six-game goal drought heading into Monday. We've seen MacKinnon be one of the most prolific goal scorers in the league with 125 goals over his previous three seasons.

His biggest competitors for the Art Ross are Edmonton's Connor McDavid, who has won the award in five of the last eight seasons, and Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov, who has won the award twice in the last six seasons.

Both are close behind with McDavid and Kucherov sitting at 28 and 29 points respectively but a surprising newcomer has joined the conversation and could give MacKinnon the best race for the trophy.

Minnesota's Kirill Kaprizov is having a stellar start to the season with 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points, which is just one point behind MacKinnon. The Russian winger has always been in the conversation for the Art Ross but never to this intensity.

The Wild have the eighth-easiest strength of schedule in their last three quarters of the season while the Avalanche are towards the top with the 11th-hardest. It'll make for a very close finish for the award with multiple horses still very much in the race.
