The Dallas Stars clear cap space, sending Mason Marchment to Seattle Kraken for pair of draft picks

The Seattle Kraken have acquired forward Mason Marchment from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick, both teams announced Thursday.
Marchment, 30, is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, recording 22 goals and 47 points in 62 games. Known for his gritty, power-forward style and ability to contribute in the middle-six, Marchment adds scoring depth and physicality to a Seattle team that is starving to get back to the postseason.

Signed through the 2025–26 season, Marchment carries a $4.5 million cap hit that he signed with Dallas in 2022 after a breakout campaign with the Florida Panthers. Over the past three seasons with the Stars, he posted 117 points in 207 games, along with 203 hits.
For Dallas, the move was needed as they are tight against the cap and adds future draft capital. The Stars are coming off a season where they featured one of the deepest forward groups in the league but failed to get past Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers in the Conference Finals.
The Stars will still have options as they look to try and keep their forward group as best as they can like recently re-signing Matt Duchene after he led the team in points this past season.
With Marchment off the books, the Stars now gain $4.5 million in cap flexibility heading into what could be a busy offseason as they aim to retool after another deep playoff run.
The Stars are deep on the wings and may use the added flexibility to pursue a more impactful addition. Bettors should keep a close eye on how the front office reallocates the $4.5 million in space—future odds could shift if Dallas makes a high-profile signing or trade.
Seattle, meanwhile, gets a proven winger with playoff experience and a gritty edge that should push them closer to playoff contention in the competitive Pacific Division.
