Timing is everything, and Macklin Celebrini put on a show on the same night that a massive bidding war ensued for his most valuable card to date
Well-known Canadian sports card consigners "Slab Sharks" had a grail card up for auction Thursday night on eBay.
It was a 1-of-2 rookie tandem shield patch from Upper Deck's 2024-25 Ultimate Collection featuring Celebrini and his fellow rookie teammate Will Smith.

The rookie shields are considered a holy grail piece for any high-end collector, so a rookie shield of Celebrini was certainly going to bring attention to the collecting world.
The card went for $45,778 CAD. Wowza.

That is the largest sale of a Macklin Celebrini card to date, edging out a 1/1 Black Future Watch Patch Auto that went for north of $43,000 three days prior.
The timing of the sale was perfect, too. Celerbini was in the midst of the best game of his career, notching three goals and five points in a crazy 6-5 overtime win over the New York Rangers.
It's not just the high-end market that is benefiting from the sophomore's big night, either.
Celebrini's flagship rookie card is also seeing an uptick in pricing. Ahead of the season, the 2024 #1 overall pick was still a highly sought-after player for collectors, and his flagship rookie card, the Young Guns, was selling in the $100-$125 CAD range.
The latest sale of his this card after his five-point night is $153 on eBay. The latest sale on his PSA 10 graded Young Guns is $603.
I always compare the hockey card market to stocks. When the asset performs, the price of the stock goes up. So anyone holding Celebrini stock right now must be happy with the dividends they're likely to receive if this keeps up.
