Trois-Rivieres forward Alex Beaucage didn’t have a goal in the North Division Semifinals Series against the Norfolk Admirals until Thursday night.
When the night was over, Beaucage ended up with two, leading the Lions to a 4-1 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Trois-Rivieres set the tone early with a power-play opportunity just minutes into the contest. Beaucage capitalized with his first goal of the series for a 1-0 Lions lead two minutes in.
Five minutes later, Beaucage struck again—this time at even strength. He fired a shot from the point that took a freak bounce over the glove of Joe Vrbetic to double the Lions' lead to 2-0.
Norfolk tried to respond with several strong scoring chances, but Lions netminder Luke Cavallin was up to the task, turning away everything the Admirals threw his way.
Tempers flared in the opening frame, and physical play ramped up, but the score remained 2-0 after 20 minutes.
The second period was scoreless, with very few shots generated by either team and just one penalty assessed—Beaucage for cross-checking.
In the third, Tyler Hylland extended the lead with a highlight-reel individual effort, and Anthony Beauregard added another on the power play to make it 4–0.
Norfolk tried to mount a late push. Brady Fleurent spoiled Cavallin’s shutout bid with 30 seconds remaining, scoring Norfolk’s lone goal, also with the man advantage.
Game 4 is Friday night inside Norfolk Scope. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 Pm.
