The Jacksonville Icemen came into Tuesday night’s matchup in Orlando with a chance to sweep the Solar Bears. Orlando, however, spoiled those plans with a 4-1 victory at the Kia Center to salvage one of the three games.
Spencer Kersten scored the Solar Bears’ first and final goals of the night. He potted the first just 1:13 into the first period for a 1-0 lead, extending his point streak to eight.
Brayden Low added his 11th goal of the season at 6:26 and Aaron Luchuk scored his 16th at the 8:01 mark as the Solar Bears took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
Jacksonville controlled the middle frame and outshot the Solar Bears 12-2, but managed only one goal.
Early in the period, Garrett Van Wyhe scored on a 4-on-4 opportunity after Ivan Chukarov took the puck into the attacking zone and getting off a shot. It bounced off Orlando goaltender Ryan Fanti’s pads but caromed right to Van Wyhe, who didn’t miss. It was his seventh goal of the year and Chukarov’s 21st assist, tops on the team.
Kersten tallied his second goal of the night to make it a 4-1 final.
The Icemen had 27 shots on goal to Orlando’s 20, but Fanti stopped 26 to earn the victory. Justen Close, who came into the game second in the ECHL with a 2.01 goals-against average, took the loss.
