The Cincinnati Cyclones received forward Dante Sheriff from the Tulsa Oilers Tuesday in exchange for defenseman Jack Clement and the rights to forward Kieran Craig.
Sheriff suited up for 62 games for the Oilers last season, recording 18 goals and 31 assists for 49 points. The 25-year-old Woodbridge, Ontario native has played two seasons with Tulsa and totaled 79 points over 113 regular season games.
Last season, Sheriff proved to be adept on the power play and in the clutch, scoring five man-advantage goals and two game-winning goals. He's certainly familiar with the Cyclones, having faced them five times in his career with five points against them.
Prior to turning pro, Sheriff played for two seasons with Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA. In 52 games for the Lakers, he scored 42 points (13-29-42). During his junior hockey career with the Austin Bruins of the NAHL, Sheriff was named Forward of the Year and MVP for the 2019-20 season, recording 62 points.
The 6-foot-4, 202-pound Clement played his collegiate hockey at the University of Miami-Ohio, where he served as a multi-year captain and finished second in program history with 166 appearances. He recorded 33 points (10-23-33) with the Redhawks.
The 25-year-old right-handed defenseman made his professional debut in Cincinnati last season, dressing for eight games following his college career.
Craig, 22, began his pro career with Florida last season, registering a goal and four assists in eight games with the Everblades before appearing in one game with Cincinnati to finish the season.
Cyclones head coach and director of hockey operations Jason Payne calls Sheriff a "shifty player with high offensive capabilities."
One thing is certain. There's a new sheriff in Cincinnati, and he won't be afraid to put the puck in the net.
