The league announced a fine stemming from a spearing incident toward the end of the Wheeling Nailers-Maine Mariners game on Friday.
The ECHL Department of Player Safety on Saturday announced that Maine’s Dalton Gally has been fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions in ECHL Game #4, Wheeling at Maine, on Friday.
Gally is fined under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline as the result of his major penalty and game misconduct for spearing at 19:47 of the third period.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.
The game got physical almost from the start when a fight occurred between Wheeling's Matthew Quercia and the Mariners’ Justin Bean just 2:38 into the first period.
The fight sparked a Nailers power play goal 1:22 later after Kyle Jackson fed the puck to Atley Calvert along the left side of the goal line. Calvert then delivered a pass to Gabe Klassen, who drilled a one-timer into the right side of the net for his first professional goal and a 1-0 Wheeling lead. The Nailers went on to win the game 4-1.
