The Savannah Ghost Pirates will soon announce their new NHL/AHL affiliate on Monday, June 17 at 2 p.m. EST at Enmarket Arena. Since their establishment as the ECHL's 28th franchise in 2022, the Ghost Pirates have been affiliated with the Vegas Golden Knights (NHL) and the Henderson Silver Knights (AHL). However, with the introduction of two more ECHL franchises, the Bloomington Bison and the Tahoe Knight Monsters, changes were expected.
The Bloomington Bison, the ECHL's 30th franchise, recently announced their affiliation with the New York Rangers (NHL) and Hartford Wolfpack (AHL). On the other hand, the Tahoe Knight Monsters have not announced their affiliation yet. Given that the Ghost Pirates are parting ways with Vegas, it seems likely that the Tahoe Knight Monsters will become the ECHL affiliate for the Golden Knights, which would make sense both economically and geographically.
It remains to be seen who the Ghost Pirates will be affiliated with. However, Savannah's social media post with the hashtag #TimeToHaunt suggests a possible nod to the Florida Panthers' motto, "TimeToHunt." This could indicate a potential affiliation with the Florida Panthers, as the move would better facilitate call-ups and reassignments between AHL and ECHL clubs, with the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) being just a mere 250 miles to the north.
The Florida Everblades have been the ECHL affiliate of the Panthers since the 2022-23 season. If the Ghost Pirates were to replace the Everblades, this would leave Florida to be paired up with one of the five remaining teams without an ECHL affiliate: the Carolina Hurricanes, Arizona Coyotes, Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
We will find out the Savannah Ghost Pirates' plans on Monday, June 17.
