Captain Cody Sylvester hangs up his skates after a stellar career. Witness the final moments of a true Gladiator's legend and his lasting impact.

As the 2025–26 ECHL season winds down, the Atlanta Gladiators prepare to say goodbye to one of the most impactful players in franchise history. Captain Cody Sylvester has announced that this season will be his last, bringing to a close a professional career defined by consistency, leadership, and elite scoring touch.

Sylvester’s retirement marks the end of a journey that spanned over a decade of professional hockey, which started with the Wheeling Nailers. Entering the 2025–26 campaign, the veteran was already ingrained among the Gladiators’ all-time leaders, having amassed over 220 points in just over 230 games with the club since joining in 2021. His offensive production placed him among the reliable forwards in the ECHL year after year.

Named captain at the start of the 2025–26 season, Sylvester’s leadership role was a natural progression. After serving as an alternate captain for multiple seasons, he earned the “C” as a reflection of both his on-ice performance and his presence in the locker ro

On the ice, Sylvester’s legacy is defined by his scoring ability. His standout 2022–23 season saw him record 86 points, including a franchise-record 38 goals, cementing his place in Gladiators history. Even in the later part of his career, he remained a top contributor, leading the team in scoring during the 2024–25 season with 47 points in 65 games.

Sylvester’s impact goes far beyond the stat sheet. Over the course of five seasons in Atlanta, he became a cornerstone of the organization, as a player and a community figure. A veteran in the locker room, who has amassed more than 600 professional games across North America and Europe, he brought a level of experience and stability that helped shape the Gladiators.

Originally breaking into the professional ranks in 2013 following a successful junior career with the WHL Calgary Hitmen, Sylvester’s path took him through the AHL, ECHL, and multiple European leagues before returning to North America and ultimately finding a long-term home with the Gladiators.

As the Gladiators close out the season and head into post-season play, Sylvester’s final games will serve as a glimpse of a career to younger players coming up through the ranks that left a lasting imprint on the franchise. His combination of skill, leadership, and longevity has set a standard for future players in Atlanta.

When the final horn sounds on his career, whenever that may be during the post-season, Cody Sylvester will leave the game as one of the most accomplished and respected players to ever don a Gladiators sweater. His legacy is secured not just in records but in the culture he helped build.
