When he was 19, Filip Forsmark left his native Sweden to cross the ocean and begin his hockey career in North America.
Seven years later, he finds himself in the ECHL, and will join the Wheeling Nailers for the 2024-25 season.
Forsmark made his pro hockey debut in the ECHL last spring, skating in two games with the Allen Americans. He registered four shots on goal in those contests and had an even +/- rating.
Forsmark played collegiate hockey at Merrimack College for four seasons. He appeared in 123 of a possible 126 games with the Warriors, posting 26 goals and 48 assists for 74 points.
As a freshman, he led Merrimack with 13 points in 18 games during the abbreviated 2020-21 season, then had his best collegiate totals as a sophomore with 27 points (11-16-27).
Upon coming to North America, the native of Skovde began his junior hockey career with the USHL's Tri-City Storm. Forsmark was second on the club in scoring in 2018-19, helping the Storm to the league's best regular-season record and an appearance in the conference final round of the playoffs.
Forsmark has two brothers, Oscar and Carl, both of whom play professionally in Sweden. Oscar plays for HC Lidköping, while Carl is with Guldsmedshytte SK.
As of August 27, the Nailers have 14 players on their roster as they prepare to open the 2024-25 season on the road against the Maine Mariners on Friday, October 18. Keep checking back with The Hockey News for more signings as they develop.
