Kelly Cup champion Ben Boudreau returns to Fort Wayne, bringing his championship pedigree and deep family legacy back to the bench to lead another title charge.

It was announced this afternoon that the new coach of the Fort Wayne Komets would be Kelly Cup winning coach Ben Boudreau

He ranks seventh in franchise history in coaching victories, compiling a 134-96-27 record during his first tenure with the club.

After serving two seasons as a Komets assistant coach, Boudreau was promoted to head coach prior to the 2019 season and quickly established himself as one of the organization’s most successful leaders. The team went on to win the Kelly Cup in 2021.

Following the 2022-23 season, he moved on to coach the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League, where he spent the last two years. He would bring the IceDogs to playoffs multiple times. He would be fired from the IceDogs due to reports of inappropriate behavior.

As for coming back to Fort Wayne, Boudreau said “This organization holds a special place in my heart.. Fort Wayne is where my family built lasting memories, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return. Being back with the Komets means a great deal to me and my family.”

The Boudreau name is already deeply connected to Komets history. Ben’s father, Bruce Boudreau, coached the franchise during the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons.

With Boudreau back in charge, the focus now shifts to bringing the Kelly Cup back to Fort Wayne.
