A GoFoundMe campaign has begun to aid former Americans and Stingray alumni Dan Federico as he battles cancer
The ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays shared on Friday night that former defenseman Dan Federico is battling cancer and that the club has put out a call to fundraise on behalf of the Federico family.

"Dan Federico, defenseman for the Stingrays during the 2016-17 season and 2017-18 season, was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. The sudden diagnosis happened just 11 weeks after Dan and his wife, Avery, welcomed their first baby, Piper.
Please join us in our efforts to make this journey even a fraction easier, and to ensure that Dan and Avery can focus on what’s truly important: his recovery and their beautiful family."
