    The Fort Wayne Komets are getting their alternate captain back for the upcoming season.

    The team announced on Tuesday that veteran forward Alex Aleardi has re-signed with the Komets for the 2025-26 season.

    The 32-year-old right-shot center/right winger wore the ‘A’ on his chest all season long for the Komets. With an even 23 goals and 23 assists, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound Fort Wayne native finished the season with 46 points. He led the team in game-winning goals (seven) and overtime goals (three), appearing in 71 games.

    Aleardi was named Inglasco ECHL Player of the Week in late February, He scored six goals and added an assist in three games for the week of Feb. 24-March 2.

    The veteran forward has played 315 ECHL games, scoring 137 goals and 154 assists for 291 points.

    "This is an incredible start to building our roster for next season,” Komets head coach Jesse Kallechy said in a statement. “As we saw last season, Alex brings incredible skill and leadership to the squad."

    Aleardi also played three seasons in the American Hockey League with Springfield and Charlotte. In 92 games, he recorded 41 points (20-21-41).

    Before turning pro, Aleardi played five seasons of junior hockey in the OHL with Kitchener, Belleville, Plymouth and Windsor. He put up 227 points (104-123-227) in 321 contests.

    The 74th season of Komets hockey will start on Oct. 17 at Indy against the Fuel.
