With the re-signing of forward Christian Sarlo, the Maine Mariners now have three former Nittany Lions on their roster this coming season.

The Maine Mariners are building a Penn State connection as they prepare for the 2024-25 season.

The club recently announced the re-signing of rookie forward Christian Sarlo to the roster.

The 23-year-old native of Lynbrook, NY appeared in 10 games after coming to the Mariners last March. He posted three goals and three assists for six points during that stretch, including his first two goals March 29 at Trois-Rivieres. He also skated in three Kelly Cup Playoff contests.

During his four years at Penn State, Sarlo skated in 122 games and posted 48 points (19-29-48) while capturing Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors during his sophomore and junior seasons.

"I'm really excited to be back," Sarlo announced following his signing. "Portland is a great town that has a real excitement for the Mariners. The coaching staff and players were great and I can't say enough good things about my time there. I can't wait to start things up."

Sarlo is now the third Penn State player on the Maine roster, joining Xander Lamppa and Christian Berger. Lamppa, a forward who split his time between the Mariners and Nittany Lions last season, signed with Maine in July. The Rochester, Minnesota native tallied 16 points (3-13-16) in 35 games with Penn State and eight points in 16 regular-season games with the Mariners.

Berger, a defenseman who hails from St. Louis, signed with the Mariners in July. He served as team captain for the Nittany Lions last season, recording six points (2-4-6) in 30 appearances as a senior. During his junior season, Berger was the team's leading scorer from the blueline, posting 20 points (5-15-20).

Sarlo gives the Mariners a total of 13 players on their roster as of August 20. Stay tuned to The Hockey News as more signings are announced.
