The Kansas City Mavericks added to their corps of forwards with the signing of Daniel Amesbury for the upcoming season.
The 33-year-old native of maple Ridge, British Columbia played briefly with the Fort Wayne Komets last season, appearing in 13 games.
Prior to Fort Wayne, the 6-foot-1, 220-pound forward played 46 games over two seasons with the Danbury Hat Tricks of the FPHL, where he registered five goals and 10 assists for 15 points, to go along with 436 penalty minutes.
Danbury won the Commissioner's Cup in 2023, and Amesbury tallied a goal and 47 penalty minutes over five playoff contests.
Amesbury left hockey from 2014-22 before joining the Hat Tricks. He is the true definition of an enforcer, racking up 1,207 penalty minutes over his career.
Known as 'Diamond Hands' for his willingness to mix it up with opponents, the right-handed shot is considered one of the toughest players in minor league hockey, although his rough-and-tumble style led to a suspension in the FPHL. He co-hosts the Talkin' Trash podcast and has built a large social media following.
None of this is a concern for Mavericks general manager and head coach Tad O'Had.
"The Kansas City faithful will love his hard-hitting style, toughness, intensity, and grit," O'Had said following the signing. "Daniel is an excellent teammate, protector, and fan favorite who will be a great addition to our roster. He embodies the passion, work ethic and love for the game that we value in Kansas City."
