The Reading Royals have signed forward Brock Caufield for the upcoming 2024-25 season, the team announced earlier this week. The 25-year-old skated with the Newfoundland Growlers last season, recording 32 points on 12 goals and 20 assists in 63 games played.
If the name rings a bell, Caufield is the older brother of Montreal Canadiens star forward Cole Caufield. Prior to joining Newfoundland, Brock Caufield spent five seasons at the University of Wisconsin, tallying a career-high seven goals, 12 assists, and 19 points as a graduate student during the 2022-23 season.
Before Wisconsin, Caufield skated in the USHL for two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers. In his second year, he accumulated 40 points on 18 goals and 22 assists across 60 games.
The Royals, who finished in the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings last year, are hoping that Caufield can bring the same energy he brought to Newfoundland as the organization looks to right the ship.
Earlier this offseason, Reading removed the interim tag from head coach Jason Binkley, and the Royals bench boss made it clear in his introductory media call that significant roster turnover was likely to be expected. The addition of Caufield for next season should be one to monitor as the season gets going and ultimately unfolds.
