University of New England alum Alex Sheehy will be back for a second season with Maine.

Alex Sheehy feels right at home in Maine, having played in the state since 2019. That stay will be extended for another season, as the 26-year-old blueliner has re-signed with the Maine Mariners for 2024-25.

A native of North Salem, NY, Sheehy joined the Mariners after playing three seasons of collegiate hockey for the University of New England.

In 35 games with the Mariners as a rookie, Sheehy registered six assists. While he's still looking for his first professional goal, he has shown a willingness to drop the gloves, recording 49 penalty minutes during that stretch.

"Last season was a great experience playing in front of such passionate fans," Sheehy stated after the signing. "The Mariners are a first-class organization and it was an easy decision to come back to Portland."

At the University of New England, Sheehy captained the 2022-23 squad, his third and final season with the program. He posted 17 points in 24 games and was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference's All-Conference First Team.

Prior to UNE, Sheehy played in the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC). He also starred in hockey and lacrosse at Millbrook High School, where he was named Team MVP in hockey and Defensive MVP for the lacrosse squad.

Sheehy's signing gives the Mariners 15 players on their roster as of August 26. Check back with The Hockey News as more signings are announced.
