Championship dreams ignite as playoff spots vanish. Florida eyes a title, while others fight for crucial positioning and the last chance to contend.

As the regular season enters its final stretch, the ECHL’s South Division is giving fans in the south exactly what they expect this time of year: the urgency factor, separation at the top, and an intense battle for the final playoff spot.

While the top of the division has largely taken shape, the race for positioning, along with the final postseason berth, remains very much in flux, setting the stage for a dramatic finish down south.

Everblades Closing In on Another Division Crown

At the top, the Florida Everblades are once again asserting their dominance.

Florida is a team that all teams should look at for a consistency factor. Florida has built a comfortable cushion and is on the verge of clinching yet another South Division title. Their ability to win in tight games, combined with strong goaltending and depth scoring, has separated them from the rest of the pack.

With the Kelly Cup Playoffs looming, the Everblades aren’t just chasing a division banner; they are positioning themselves as a contender to add yet another championship to their growing legacy.

Behind the Everblades, the race tightens.

The South Carolina Stingrays and Atlanta Gladiators have spent much of the season at the top of the standings behind the Everblades. Now both teams are in a battle for second place, with Atlanta holding the spot, one point ahead of South Carolina.

Both teams have secured their playoff positions, but neither can afford to coast through the rest of the season. A second-place finish could prove critical for these teams, especially in this tight matchup.

Momentum will be key in the final games of the regular season, as each side looks to enter the postseason with confidence and in good position.

Ghost Pirates Holding On — For Now

The Savannah Ghost Pirates currently occupy the fourth and final playoff spot, but their grip isn't secure.

Savannah has shown flashes of greatness throughout the season, capable of competing with the division’s best on any given night. However, their inconsistency has kept them from pulling away in the standings, leaving the door open for challengers, such as the Jacksonville Icemen.

At this point, every point in the standings holds added weight to a tight playoff race, and the Ghost Pirates face a simple reality: they need to win, and they’re in control. Slip up, and the pressure mounts immediately. The team has been around for four seasons, and if they make it in, this will be their first playoff appearance.

Icemen, Swamp Rabbits Charging Late

Just outside the playoff line, the Jacksonville Icemen and Greenville Swamp Rabbits are making their final pushes to punch their ticket to the dance.

The Icemen are a team with playoff expectations entering the season, and find themselves in an unfamiliar position this season: chasing. Every game has essentially become a must-win, and their margin for error is razor-thin.

Greenville has embraced the role of spoiler-turned-contender. Within striking distance of fourth place, the Swamp Rabbits have an opportunity to leapfrog into the postseason picture, especially with key head-to-head matchups still on the schedule.

Even the Orlando Solar Bears, though on the outside looking in, remain mathematically alive — a reminder of how tightly packed this race is.

A Finish Worth Watching

While Florida appears poised to secure the division crown, the rest of the South remains unsettled.

From the fight for home ice between South Carolina and Atlanta to the increasing desperation for fourth, every game down the stretch carries playoff implications for all teams.

In a division defined by consistency at the top and chaos near the cutoff, the final days of the regular season promise intensity, urgency, and drama.

If the race so far is any indication, the South Division could be sending battle-tested teams into the Kelly Cup Playoffs — with plenty left to prove.
