The genie is out of the bottle that is the 2023-24 ECHL season and while - as of press time - teams have played a maximum of three games apiece, we're beginning to see which players are ready to take a giant leap forward in their offensive game.
Here are the ridiculously early points leaders of the 2023-24 ECHL season:
Jackson Berezowski - Newfoundland Growlers - 7 Points
To say Jackson Berezowski had an opening weekend to remember with the Newfoundland Growlers would be something of an understatement.
The Dogs feasted on the Reading Royals to kick off their season in a three-game homestand at the Mary Brown's Centree this past weekend, and while the likes of Tyler Weiss, Grant Cruikshank and a player to be named later had fine offensive turns, it was Berezowski who led the charge.
The Yorkton, Sask. native scored three goals in his first three pro games, adding four assists to lead the league with seven points. The 21-year-old put together a strong WHL campaign last season with the Everett Silvertips, earning 81 points across 62 games.
Northland Gretzky SeriesCole Coskey - Kansas City Mavericks - 6 Points
A seventh-round selection of the New York Islanders in 2019, Cole Coskey has bumped between the AHL and ECHL in the years since putting up 80 points in 62 games with the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL.
Following a 36-point turn in 2022-23 with the Mavericks, Coskey is already on the upswing in his second go-round with KC, netting four goals and six points to kick off the young season.
Alex Aleardi - Rapid City Rush - 5 Points
Fort Wayne's Alex Aleardi has been around the game, quite literally, worldwide.
From the AHL to the ECHL and stints in Sweden, Austria, and France, the 31-year-old has paid his dues in the sport.
A Kelly Cup champion with the Everblades in 2021-22, Aleardi put together a solid 65-point season with the Rush in 2022-23. He's hot out of the box this season with five points in just two games with Rapid City.
The Hockey NewsBrock Caufield - Newfoundland Growlers - 5 Points
'Brocktober' is in full swing across the ECHL.
The elder Caufield brother has made the most of his first look with the Leafs' AA affiliate, banking two goals and five points in three games for the offensively-minded Growlers.
A product of the University of Wisconsin, we'd expect Caufield to bounce between the Dogs and Marlies as clubs aim to capture Caufield's mix of offensive-minded hustle and on-ice vision.
