Standout NCAA forward Grant Ahcan brings speed and elite penalty-killing to the desert, marking a historic first signing for the Goatheads ahead of their inaugural season.
After hinting earlier this year they would start revealing the first roster in team history.
Today they revealed that this would be Grant Ahcan.
He has had an impressive hockey career starting in high school, where he recorded 68 points (25 goals and 43 assists) in 68 games.
Ahcan continued his development in junior hockey with the Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the USHL. During his junior career, he scored 21 goals and 20 assists while gaining recognition for his leadership and two-way play.
Ahcan joined St. Cloud State University in 2022 and quickly became an important contributor. As a freshman, he played 19 games, recording 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points, while finishing with a +5 rating. He also scored a shorthanded game-winning goal, and his first collegiate goal came shorthanded, making him the first St. Cloud State player since 2005 to achieve that distinction.
Over Ahcan’s NCAA career, he racked up 114 games, 14 goals and 19 assists. During the 2024–25 season, he posted career highs with 5 goals and 6 assists in 36 games and earned NCHC Academic All-Conference honors. Ahcan is recognized for his speed, penalty-killing ability, and strong work ethic, making him a valuable player at every level. He would wear a C his senior season.
Ahcan joined the ECHL this season with the Heartlanders and made it to Avalanche development camp this year.
Many more players will be announced in the coming weeks but Ahcan will go down in history.
