Idaho Steelheads defenseman Matt Register broke Phil Berger's record of 117 postseason points, a mark that stood for nearly 30 years.

The Idaho Steelheads lost Game 3 against the Kansas City Mavericks despite a valiant comeback effort. However, veteran defenseman Matt Register broke an ECHL record that had stood for 28 seasons during the game.

With a primary assist on Lynden McCallum's third-period goal, Register became the ECHL's all-time postseason point leader with 118 points. The previous record holder was Phil Berger, who recorded 117 points across nine seasons, playing with Greensboro, Charlotte, Raleigh and Hampton Roads.

This milestone is just the latest in Register's decorated career in the ECHL. Back in mid-March, the blueliner became only the 14th player in ECHL history to skate in 600 career regular-season games.

Register is also the all-time leader in career playoff games with 154, including the first eight games of the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs. He also holds the record for most assists in a playoff career with 89.

The 34-year-old defenseman is a three-time Kelly Cup winner and will look to add another to his trophy case with Idaho. The Steelheads trail their series with Kansas City, 2-1, with Game 4 set for Friday night.
