The Toledo Walleye have seen a number of players from last year's historic team depart for European clubs. However, forward Brandon Hawkins is set to return in the upcoming 2024-25 season, the team announced on Friday. The 30-year-old tallied 40 goals and 93 points and was named the ECHL's Most Valuable Player for the 2023-24 season.
Hawkins set the tone for his season with a nine-game point streak to start the year in which he accumulated nine goals and 14 points, including five multi-point efforts during that stretch. He finished the first half of the year with 49 points on 20 goals and 29 assists and was named captain of his team for the 2024 ECHL All-Star Classic.
Despite starting the second half without a point in his first four games, Hawkins made up for lost time with goals coming in four of his next five games. He finished the regular-season schedule with seven points in his final four games.
In the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs, Hawkins tallied points in each of Toledo's first five games en route to an ECHL record 22-game win streak for the Walleye. He returns to Toledo for his fourth season after previously spending one season with both the Wheeling Nailers and Fort Wayne Komets.
