Brandon Hawkins is becoming quite familiar with winning scoring titles for a playoff-caliber team.
For the second consecutive season, the Toledo Walleye right winger has won the ECHL scoring championship.
The 5-foot-10, 198-pound native of Macomb Township, Mich. led the ECHL with 89 points (37-52-) in 71 games this season. He also recorded 40 penalty minutes and had a +20 rating.
Hawkins is the third player in league history to win consecutive scoring titles, joining Chad Costello - who led the league in scoring in three straight seasons (2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17) - and John Spoltore (1998-99 and 1999-2000).
Tahoe’s Sloan Stanick (29g-50a) and Rapid City’s Ryan Wagner (29g-50a) were tied for second with 79 points each, followed by Peter Bates of the Wichita Thunder (28g-50a) with 78 points and the Norfolk Admirals' Brady Fleurent (30g-47a) and Wichita’s Michal Stinil (25g-52a) with 77 points each.
Hawkins, who was named to the All-ECHL First Team last week, also had 336 shots on goal while finishing tied for second with 37 goals and tied for second with 52 assists. His 12 power-play goals led the ECHL.
In 343 career ECHL games spanning six seasons, Hawkins has registered 399 points (190-209-399). He also has seven points (3-4-7) in 28 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Penguins, Rochester Americans, Cleveland Monsters and Chicago Wolves.
The Walleye finished the regular season first in the Central Division with a 44-17-9-2 record, good for 99 points. They are Central Division champions for the second consecutive season.
