Who advances to the Gold medal Game in NHL 24?

Canada is taking on Switzerland in the semifinals of the 2024 IIHF Men's World Championship, we simulated the game in NHL 24 to see who would win.

These two teams matched up earlier in the tournament in preliminary round play, Canada came away with a narrow 3-2 victory.

The Swiss were able to win this simulation 4-3 on a late shorthanded goal from Gaetan Haas.

We did not know the projected lines for the game at the time of writing but used to the most recent lines for each team and made a few changes based on overalls.

We kept Connor Bedard out of the Canada lineup in favor of Dawson Mercer as he has been Canada's 13th forward more often than not.

We inserted Philipp Kurashev and Michael Fora for Switzerland ahead of Christian Marti and and Tristan Scherwey to help the overall disparity between the depth of the two teams. Kurashev and Fora have been the 13th forward and seventh defenseman for the Swiss.

Additionally, we started the higher overall goaltenders, Jordan Binnington and Akira Schmid, for both teams.

John Tavares had a goal and assist for Canada, they also got goals from Bowen Byram and Jared McCann.

Nico Hischier and Calvin Thurkauf both had two points for Switzerland, with Nino Niederreiter and Haas rounding out the scoring.

Offense reigned supreme this simulation as Binnington had a .818 save percentage while Schmid was not much better at .842.

If this simulation holds true it would be Switzerland's first time in the Gold Medal game since 2018.
