Per community feedback, the Legacy Goalie Controls that many experienced players are used to will return in NHL 24. The all-new Tethered Control System restricted human goalie movements, making it harder to cover certain angles. While the new Tethered Control System is a welcome addition to NHL 24, and novice goalies will benefit from it, experienced users have asked to get complete control and freedom over the movement of their netminder. This means goalies will not auto-center after moving to a certain angle and making saves, thus giving more control to the human player.
EA SPORTS is expanding the area where human goalies can move in their crease. More specifically, human goalies' range of movement is being increased from 3 feet to 5 feet. This is amazing news for novice and experienced goalies who prefer the Tethered Control System but have wanted it tweaked.
Overall, the return of the Legacy Goalie Controls and tweaks to the all-new Tethered Control System provide players with more options and control over how they want to play goalie in NHL 24.
Another tuning to the human goalie experience in NHL 24 includes the removal of the goalie instinct penalty when incorrect and increasing the goalie instinct boost when correct. This is a particularly significant and exciting change, as players can proactively and comfortably use the instinct system without risk. An interesting storyline to follow is seeing how goalies can utilize the instinct system strategically and to full advantage, thus separating themselves from competitors. Human goalie fatigue is also being reduced to give players more control over how they choose to make adjustments in-game depending on various situations.
The Goalie Fatigue System will have additional changes. Rather than regenerating their energy during active play when the puck is in the offensive zone, AI goalies will now begin replenishing their energy immediately when the puck exists from their defensive zone. Removing the constant fatigue will diminish the desperation save attempts by AI goalies and provide more variance in the game.
Other updates to the Goalie Fatigue System include the presence of the fatigue meter to give players a cue regarding the state of the goalie’s fatigue level. Goalie attributes will also have an increased impact on drain and energy recovery, and goalies, in general, will be more stable when rested. This means that a goalie operating with energy above 50% will make fewer desperate save attempts because they will be more readily available and sound in their position.
