EA Sports were set to release their NHL 25 gameplay deep dive on Friday but they announced via Twitter/X that they are postponing the release due to the devastating tragedy regarding Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
The entire hockey community woke up this morning at a loss for words. News had broke that Columbus Blue Jackets' star forward Johnny Gaudreau had passed away along with his younger brother Matthew in an accident involving a drunk driver.
The two were out in south New Jersey late Thursday evening riding on bikes when they were fatally struck by an SUV by a 43-year-old man who was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
To make matters even worse, Johnny and Matthew were prepared to serve as groomsmen on Friday at their sister's wedding.
We send our deepest condolences and prayers to the Gaudreau family as they grieve this unspeakable tragedy.
EA Sports said they will announce the deep dive video at a later date, a respectable decision since today should only be about the loving memories of the seven-time NHL all-star Johnny Hockey and the Gloucester Catholic High School Head Coach, Matthew.
Today is also a reminder to hug and spend as much time as you can with the ones you love. Playing video games can be a nice escape for some, but spending time in person with those you are close with will always create a special bond that will never leave.
It's also a reminder that you should never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you're out drinking. You're not only putting your life at risk but the others out on the road.
Call a friend, an Uber, take transition, or walk home. If the driver who struck Johnny and Matthew did any of those options, then the Gaudreau family would not be grieving today.
