EA Sports NHL has unveiled that Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr, widely considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time and the best defenseman in NHL history, is making his first-ever appearance in the EA SPORTS NHL franchise as a free playable character in NHL 24 until January 2, 2024.
Earlier this season, the Boston Bruins announced that Orr made the All-Centennial Team, composed of the 20 most legendary players in franchise history. To celebrate this major milestone, EA has added the Hall of Famer in game, along with a few Bobby Orr themed content updates in game:
Bobby Orr played in 10 seasons for the Boston Bruins, leading them to two Stanley cups in 1970 and 1972 and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP both years. He also famously scored the championship-winning goal in sudden death overtime (1970), and the snapshot of him flying through the air has become hockey gold. During his career, Orr received more than 16 major awards, and notably won the James Norris Trophy as most valuable defenseman from 1968 to 1975. Orr retired in 1978, having appeared in 631 games and recorded 264 goals, and was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979.
Any time you can relive some of hockey's most iconic moments, and play with some of the most iconic players is always a great thing to have. With this new update, fans who may have not been able to see Orr in his prime, can now play as him and relive a small part of his history in some way.
