EA Sports should revert to the old hockey bag reward system in the next NHL video game

In NHL 24, the developers changed the hockey bag reward system in World of Chel. But why did they do that?

When hockey bags were first introduced into World of Chel, it was a cool new way for players to unlock gear and customizations for their chel characters. The fun part was getting something before one of your friends like the mouthguard hang or an obnoxious celly. Then you had the bragging rights over your friends.

The downside to this system was that it was all RNG. Some players did not like that they couldn’t simply purchase the piece of gear or celebration or player intro they wanted. They said it ruined the customization part of the game.

That’s why NHL 24 introduced the World of Chel Store, where players could spend their in-game currency on what they wanted to customize their chel player.

NHL 24 players could spend chel points or coins to get what they wanted instead of relying on the randomness of opening up countless hockey bags. The store system is a welcome addition to the game and has made things easier and more convenient for players.

However, it has essentially made hockey bags obsolete. There’s almost no point in opening them up. All you get when you open up a hockey bag is chel coins, with the amount of coins varying depending on the caliber of the bag. Boring.

Players also receive chel coins for completing games. So, what’s the point of hockey bags then? That’s where they have become lost in the World of Chel interface.

Personally, I like the RNG system better. It compels players to engage more and unlock additional rewards in the hope of obtaining their desired items. Once they succeed, the sense of achievement is unparalleled.

The use of hockey bags in the game used to be enjoyable, but now it seems unnecessary.

If NHL 25 is going to be similar to NHL 24, then the game developers should consider removing hockey bags altogether and stick to the system of players earning coins from completing games.

This isn’t a major issue and I would assume most chel players like how accessible it now is to customize your character. But I am on the other side of the fence and would like the game to revert to the old RNG way.
