With the Detroit Red Wings trading defenseman Jake Walman and a second round pick to the San Jose Sharks for Future Considerations we wanted to see how lopsided the deal was in NHL 24.
Predictably, NHL 24 was as baffled by the trade as many fans and analysts were.
The three most recent trades for Future Considerations were Ottawa acquiring Wyatt Bongiovanni from Winnipeg, Columbus acquiring Malcolm Subban from St. Louis, and Montreal acquiring Filip Cederqvist from Buffalo. None of these deals have resulted in anything tangible in return, so we experimented with the return for Walman.

Unsurprisingly, San Jose jumped at the opportunity to acquire Walman when Detroit proposed the deal, we asked for San Jose's lowest rated player, Artem Guryev, as a substitute to future considerations in this deal.
When proposing the deal as San Jose we attempted to make separate deals offering a seventh round pick and a second round pick, both of which Detroit rejected. We also made a deal with a first round pick to find value that NHL 24 found more accurate, which Detroit accepted.
Ultimately NHL 24 thinks San Jose is the slam dunk winner of this trade, and given the Sharks have not technically given up anything you can not argue against this.
NHL 24 and Detroit fans will remain puzzled by this trade and await Steve Yzerman's next move.
