NHL 24's Full Reveal trailer was dropped a few days ago on Wednesday August 16th 2023. Fans watched the reveal trailer on YouTube, on Twitch with their favourite NHL content creators, or elsewhere on social media. One thing that immediately stood out to viewers was that this game will not be the same as NHL 23, although we're yet to see if the game is actually good or not. Now that it's been over 48 hours since the reveal, let's see how the Chel community has reacted to the reveal.
When BaconCountry is optimistic about the new NHL game, you know that the game definitely has some promise. Bacon highlights how there are some areas that may be of concern with the Sustained Pressure System possibly leading to some offensive zone puck ragging, he feel the game looks pretty awesome from what he sees. This is something said more often than not, as the game does look like at the very least it's going to be a different game from NHL 23.
Broadway Block mentions that they're "cautiously optimistic" about the game, and this is something every NHL gamer probably feels to some degree. With the last few installments of NHL, the games have been glitchy, felt the same over multiple years, and overall gave a stale feel. Many are hesitant to declare this game as a great or even good game due to the past history with other game installments, and no one can truly blame any hockey fan for being cautious with their hope and optimism for a new NHL game.
Goose's tweet shows that he's really excited to play the goaltending position in NHL 24, likely as a result of the changes coming to the goalie position this year. Those that play between the pipes will have some improvements to help them with positioning and the overall realistic feel of being a goalie. At the same time, the skill gap in the goalie position will likely emerge as players will need to learn how to use the instinct system to guess properly, as well as deal with the Goalie Fatigue system should their team decide to take a nap in the defensive zone.
Finally, we have Nealer mentioning how NHL 24 looks like they're bringing a hybrid of NHL 11-14 with a side of the old 2k hockey games filtered in. This isn't that much of a surprise, as some old features from the NHL 11-14 days like broken glass are finding their way back in. As well, the way the energy bar is displayed on players gives off 2k vibes. EA NHL's Community Mannager, Dustin Wade "Clappy" even doubled down on the NHL 14 feel in NHL 24. When asked about if EASHL playoffs will go back to how they were before, he responded on Twitter with "#NHL24 EASHL playoffs are now much closer to how they were back in 14." While many like Nealer are still cautious on saying they're excited for NHL 24, seeing some elements of NHL 14 coming back is a sign to be hopeful.
All signs are pointing to NHL 24 being a well received game, but slow and steady optimism is the common feeling amongst fans. While they are excited and hopeful that NHL 24 will be good, fans clearly remember how optimism and hope were quickly shut down once the game actually came out. To truly find out just how good or bad NHL 24 is, we'll have to wait until mid October before opinions can be justified.
