With EA unveiling the top 50 players and their ratings for NHL 24, fans now have an in-depth look at who the best of the best are and their individual attributes. With any ratings unveiling, there’s lots of scrutiny around the individual attributes, but that’s boring. The fun stuff is when you take to social media and see everyone arguing, debating, and discussing who’s been overrated, underrated, and missing from certain rankings.

Today, we dive into a few of those takes.

Crosby over Matthews?

Now this one really irked some Leafs fans. In the Top 10 Centers post, EA Sports NHL revealed they have Sidney Crosby ranked 4th, ahead of Auston Matthews at 5th. Now while they actually are both rated 93 overall, we believe Crosby is slightly ahead due to his overall individual attributes being higher than Matthews. Nonetheless, this caused quite a lot of discussion among the Chel community, with some arguing Matthews should be as high as No. 2.

 A Speed Demon Missing?

EA Sports NHL also revealed the top 10 fastest players in the game. Everyone on that list did deserve to be on it, as the likes of Connor McDavid, Dylan Larkin, and Matthew Barzal are some of the fastest players in the game. However, a notable omission from the list was 2022 NHL All Star Game’s Fastest Skater Jordan Kyrou. In that competition, he beat out the likes of McDavid, Barzal, AND Larkin, but somehow didn’t crack the top 10 this year. This definitely didn’t go unnoticed, as the St. Louis Blues twitter account had a snarky response to the original post.'

Let’s Talk Goalies

Now for the most surprising one. When the top 10 goalie ratings came out, many expected Andrei Vasilevskiy to be on the list, but many also were surprised to see him top the list as the highest rated goalie in NHL 24. When he’s on form he’s easily one of the best goalies in the world, but the problem is this past season he wasn’t really on form. He was outside the top 10 in both goals against average and save percentage, leading many to think he would surrender his position as top goalie to someone like Ilya Sorokin, Linus Ullmark, or Igor Shesterkin.
