EA SPORTS dropped two new cards in NHL 24 Hockey Ultimate Team for a couple of Chicago Blackhawk legends. Patrick Kane earned a 91 overall Play of the Year card after scoring the overtime winner against his former team in his first game back in Chicago. Chris Chelios received a high-end 93 overall HUT Headliners card in honor of his jersey retirement.
In the video below, we look at the two new cards, and we also recap what was a thrilling night in Illinois.
Sunday at the United Center in Chicago was a packed event. No, it wasn't because the Illinois native rock band Fall Out Boy came to town, but a different kind of Rockstar made his triumphant return to the windy city.
The night started with the Chicago Blackhawks organization honoring the legendary blueliner, Chris Chelios, raising his No. 7 to the rafters. He spent nine seasons with the club, putting up 487 points in 664 games. He ranks fourth all-time in points amongst Blackhawks defensemen.
He wasn't the Rockstar I was referring to earlier. Still, Chelios entered his jersey retirement like one as he rode in a slick black Cadillac, accompanied by his mother.
The Rockstar making his first trip to Chicago in an opposing team's uniform was none other than Patrick Kane. An absolute legend in the windy city drafted first overall in 2007, spent 16 seasons with the team, winning three Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe Trophy in 2013.
The one they call "Showtime" received a lengthy standing ovation, which featured three curtain calls.
Chicago and Detroit needed overtime. The script was written for an epic ending on what was already an amazing night. Kane sprung on a breakaway with just over three minutes left in the extra frame. He confidently fires a quick wrister over the glove of former teammate Petr Mrazek, sending the home crowd into a frenzy despite their team losing the game.
