Montreal Canadiens defensemen lead new cards

After announcing last week that Community Request players would be returning for the first time in NHL 24, the first 10 players have been released in Hockey Ultimate Team.

All 10 players were recommended by and voted for by the community. Unlike many previous releases this season all of these players are truly elite and all come rated 92 overall.

The Community Request players provide a nice variety of players, with five forwards and five defensemen with both active and inactive players among the release.

All of the new defensemen except Nemec have a ton of size and have great skating ability. This combination goes extremely well with the current momentum-based hitting meta.

  • Pronger and Myers come in a 6'6 and 6'8 respectively, and come with great body checking and defensive stats. Myers has the Shutdown Zone Ability while Pronger has Heatseeker.
  • Montreal Canadiens fans will be ecstatic that both Xhekaj and Reinbacher received elite cards. Xhekaj has 95 body checking, can have his speed boosted to 96 with synergies and has Truculence. This card is perfect for the current meta.
  • Reinbacher comes with 95 speed and acceleration as well as Elite Edges. He has a fantastic shot and is a perfectly well-rounded defender.
  • Nemec is puck mover with 95 speed and good defensive awareness. With the recent buff to Quick Pick Nemec will rack up the interceptions.

The forwards all come with minimum 94 speed and great hands.

  • Thornton is fan-favorite with 99 passing. His 94 speed combined with his size, balance and strength will make him a monster with the puck.
  • Oshie is one of the few elite players that comes with the All Alone Zone Ability. He has 96 deking and 95 puck control. Activating Unstoppable Force will improve his puck possession skills.
  • Hoglander has 97 speed and acceleration and a great shot. Activating his Unstoppable Force Zone Ability would help counteract his small size.
  • Tucker is an elite grinder and comes with No Contest, improving his puck pickups and board play. 97 body checking and strength combined with 95 speed make him a wrecking ball.
  • Toews receives his first elite card of the season, he has great speed, an elite wrist shot and 99 faceoffs. His great defensive stats allow him to play anywhere in your lineup.

This first round of Community Requests has something for everyone and is one of the better releases of the HUT season.
