New Game 7 Stanley Cup Finals Hero Cards Added

EA Sports added three new cards in NHL 24 Hockey Ultimate Team in memory of some of the best Game 7 performances in the Stanley Cup Final

EA Sports gave NHL 24 players a surprise Monday content drop. With Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final between Edmonton and Florida taking place tonight, three new 96 overall cards have been added to Hockey Ultimate Team in memory of some of the greatest Game 7 performances in recent history.

June 15, 2011. The Boston Bruins defeat the Vancouver Canucks in front of their home crowd to win their sixth Stanley Cup in franchise history. Tim Thomas won the Conn Smythe Trophy and made 37 saves to help beat Vancouver 4-0 in Game 7.

But, this card is in memory of Brad Marchand’s two-goal, three-point performance in that Game 7 in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. Marchand set up his long-time teammate Patrice Bergeron in the first period before scoring his 10th and 11th of the playoffs later in the game. His second goal of the game was an empty-netter, and the celebrations began.

The next card is in memory of Alex Tanguay’s goal in Game 7 of the 2001 Stanley Cup Finals as a member of the Colorado Avalanche. Tanguay potted home the game-winner while being hooked down to the ice, which is why EA Sports gave him the Relentless x-factor ability on his new card.

Additionally, he scored the opening goal in Game 7 against the New Jersey Devils, and Tanguay was one of the main reasons for defenseman Ray Bourque winning his first Stanley Cup.

Last but not least, we have the memory of Tampa Bay Lightning Ruslan Fedotenko’s two-goal performance in Game 7 of the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals against the Calgary Flames.

Tampa Bay hung on to beat Calgary 2-1 in Game 7 off the backs of Fedotenko’s 11th and 12th of the playoffs. This was the Tampa Bay Lightning’s first Stanley Cup victory since entering the league in 1992.

Of course, that Cup Final in 2004 is mightily known for the “Was is it in?” moment in Game 6. The puck appeared to have crossed Tampa Bay’s goal line and would have put Calgary up 3-2 with 6:57 left on the clock in the third period. Unfortunately, for Calgary and Canadian fans, it was never ruled a goal and Fedotenko was able to have his glorious moment in the next game.

Who will be the hero tonight and aid Florida in winning the franchise’s first Stanley Cup? Or aid Edmonton in breaking the 31-year draught of a Canadian team winning the Cup?

Puck drop comes just after 8pm EST in sunny Florida.
