After games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Champions Hockey League wrapped up the opening weekend of its 10th anniversary season on Sunday. Färjestad Karlstad's second-straight regulation win puts them even at the top with Dynamo Pardubice and ZSC Lions Zurich.

Straubing Tigers (GER) 3 – Skellefteå AIK (SWE) 2 [SO]

Playing at home, Straubing trailed the Swedish champs 2-0 midway through the second period but came back to win 3-2 in a shootout. Cole Fonstad’s power-play goal with 7:02 remaining tied it, and then J.C. Lipon ended it by scoring in the sixth shootout round.

Red Bull Salzburg (AUT) 6 SønderjyskE Vojens (DEN) 2

Salzburg got a first-minute goal by Andrew Rowe and then three quick ones early in the second period, including Rowe’s second, putting them in full control. Peter Schneider of the Austrian national team led the offense with three points.

Färjestad Karlstad (SWE) 6 – KAC Klagenfurt (AUT) 2

Färjestad got two goals from Oskar Steen on the same power play to lead 3-0 after 14 minutes, then cruised to a 6-2 win. Emil Alba had three points for the victors, who won their second straight and handed Klagenfurt their first loss.

Lahti Pelicans (FIN) 5 Genève-Servette (SUI) 4 [SO]

In a matchup of two teams that lost their first games, the Pelicans took the lead three times and the defending CHL champs tied it three times, including a between-the-legs, last-minute equalizer by Teemu Hartikainen. Markus Granlund scored twice for Genève; Michal Jordán had two for Lahti.

Rouen Dragons (FRA) 3 – Oceláři Třinec (CZE) 5

The French champs had a surprising 3-1 lead after two periods before the reigning five-time Czech champs poured in four in the third for their second straight win. Marko Daňo had two goals and three points for Třinec and Tomas Simonsen had two points for Rouen. Shots were 35-21 for Třinec.

Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven (GER) 1 – Lausanne HC (SUI) 2

After a shootout loss in their opener, Lausanne outshot Bremerhaven 38-19 this game but Latvian national team goalie Kristers Gudlevskis was solid. In the last seven minutes, the Pinguins tied it but defenseman Makai Holdener scored the winner with 3:49 remaining.

Each of the 24 teams have now played two games and they will play two more next Thursday through Sunday. The regular seasons concludes with a pair of midweek game days in October.
