Alex Galchenyuk has signed a one-year contract with the KHL's Amur Khabarovsk, the club announced on its website.

Galchenyuk was drafted third overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2012 and played 11 seasons in the NHL with Montreal, the Arizona Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche. In 692 regular-season and playoff games combined, he recorded 371 points. He recorded career highs in goals (30) and points (56) in 2015-16 for the Canadiens. His contract with the Coyotes was terminated in July 2023 after he was arrested and charged with multiple offenses related to impaired driving and uttering threats to police.

Last season, Galchenyuk had 47 points in 70 combined games with SKA St. Petersburg.

Galchenyuk’s father, Aleksandr, is Belarusian and represented that country internationally at four IIHF World Championships and the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. He also represented the Soviet Union in the 1991 Canada Cup and in two World Junior Championships, including 1987 in Czechoslovakia where the Soviets and Canadians were both disqualified for a bench-clearing brawl.

The younger Galchenyuk was born in Milwaukee while his father played for the IHL Admirals. He spent his childhood in the USA, Russia, Belarus, Italy and Switzerland and played junior hockey for the OHL’s Sarnia Sting.

Galchenyuk has represented the United States at the 2013 World Junior Championship and two World Championships.
