Nashville bets on a fresh start for the 25-year-old winger, acquiring the former 24-goal scorer to bolster their bottom six following an injury-plagued season in Vancouver.
The Vancouver Canucks have traded Swedish forward Nils Höglander to the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2029 third-round pick.
It’s a change of scenery for the 25-year-old winger after a difficult season in Vancouver. Höglander dealt with a lower-body injury in the preseason that required surgery, and he didn’t get back into the lineup until December.
Even after returning, he struggled to find consistency and finished with just two goals and three assists in 38 games, with stretches as a healthy scratch mixed in.
Höglander did have 24 goals just two seasons ago. He’s still only 25, and the style seems to fit what Nashville is building with their new additions. It seems that they are trying to rebuild their bottom six. They've added Jack Drury, Ross Colton, Adam Edstrom and now Höglander.
For Vancouver, the move is more about resetting a bit and getting value while they still can. Höglander is entering the second season of a three-year deal at a $3 million cap hit. Even after the trade, all signs point to them making more moves to move out money and try to continue the rebuild under their new management group.
