After not being qualified by the Flames, Dubé signed with the Belarusian club as a free agent.
After not receiving a qualifying offer from the Calgary Flames, Canadian forward Dillon Dubé, 25, has signed with Dinamo Minsk, the Belarusian-based KHL club announced on Monday.
Dubé was drafted in the second round, 56th overall, by the Calgary Flames in 2016 and has played in the organization ever since – mostly in the NHL but also with the AHL’s Stockton Heat. With the Flames, Dubé has played 325 games in the regular season and 22 more in the playoffs, recording a combined total of 133 points.
Last season, Dubé had recorded seven points in 43 NHL games before taking a leave of absence from the Flames on January 21. Nine days later, he was one of five members of Canada’s 2018 World Junior team charged with sexual assault, stemming from an incident that occurred in June 2018 during a team event in London, Ontario.
In February, Dubé was charged with one count of sexual assault. The charges have not been proven in court and Dubé's representatives said he will plead not guilty.
It’s not clear if Dubé was forced to surrender his passport when charged.
Dubé is the second ex-NHLer to sign with Dinamo Minsk in the past few days, following American defenseman Jordan Gross.
