Russian forward Alexander Khokhlachyov, 31, has signed a contract to play the remainder of the current season with HK Sochi, the KHL club announced via social media on Monday.

Khokhlachyov started the season with Amur Khabarovsk on Russia’s Pacific coast, but he was off to a slow start with only three points in 21 games. He played his last game for Amur on Nov. 9 – his ninth straight game without a point – and received only 10:33 of ice time.

Khokhlachyov was born and raised in Moscow and is a product of the Spartak club. He went to North America at age 17 to play junior hockey for the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires and was drafted in the second round, 40th overall, by the Boston Bruins in 2011.

From 2013 to 2016, Khokhlachyov spent most of his time with the AHL’s Providence Bruins but he also played nine NHL games in that time, recording no points and two penalty minutes.

Since 2016 he has played exclusively in the KHL, mostly with Spartak but also with SKA St. Petersburg, Avangard Omsk, Amur and now Sochi. Overall, he has recorded 306 points in 523 KHL regular-season and playoff games.
