A former SHL forward has found his new home with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers have announced that they have acquired former SHL forward Filip Hallander from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Spencer Stastney.
Hallander being traded to the Oilers comes after he was recently scratched by the Penguins. Now, the 26-year-old will be hoping for more playing time with the Oilers as they continue to deal with a lot of injury trouble on offense.
Hallander started this season with a bang, as he scored a goal and recorded two assists in Pittsburgh's season opening win against the Philadelphia Flyers. However, he only played in one more game for Pittsburgh following his big performance before this trade.
In 18 career NHL games over four seasons with the Penguins, Hallander posted two goals, five assists, seven points, and a plus-8 rating.
Hallander spent multiple seasons in the SHL, including during the 2024-25 campaign. In 51 games for Timra IK that season, he posted 26 goals and 53 points. With this, he was excellent in his most recent season in the SHL.
