Recently retired Czech hockey star Jakub Voráček has been hired by host broadcaster Česká televize to work as a color commentator for some of the games at this year’s IIHF World Championship in Prague. On Sunday, longtime Canadian TSN play-by-play commentator Gord Miller tweeted a couple of pictures of Voráček with long-time Czech play-by-play man Robert Záruba prior to the game between Canada and Denmark.
Familiar with Voráček’s outspokenness, Miller foreshadowed, “Should be a fascinating broadcast, Jake has one of the most ‘colourful’ vocabularies of any NHL player I have ever known.”
While many of the reviews from Czech viewers were quite good, it didn’t take long for a critic to chime in, seemingly annoyed by Voráček’s criticism of young Canadian superstar Connor Bedard. Bedard scored two goals in the game, but didn’t seem to celebrate either of them.

Voráček responded to the comment: "I said I don’t like it.and to celebrate goal is normal.non celebration is more disrespectful the celebrate it.he is a f**king player though."
Looking back at Canada's first game against Great Britain, the same thing seems to be the case after both of Bedard's goals.
It’s an intriguing take. Perhaps Voráček’s point is that by not celebrating a goal – not even smiling – conveys a message to the other team that it was so easy to score on them that Bedard feels no sense of accomplishment. However, it’s highly unlikely that was Bedard’s intent. If anything, he was probably mindful of running up the score against Great Britain or Denmark and therefore went to greater lengths to downplay his celebrations.
It will be interesting to see how Bedard celebrates goals against Austria or Norway in this tournament. It will also be interesting to see what other interesting opinions Voráček expresses in his new role.
