Canadian right winger Jayce Hawryluk, 29, has left Slovak club HC Nové Zámky and signed with EHC Kloten in Switzerland, the latter club announced on Sunday.

Probably not coincidentally, the move comes a day after the club parted company with its top scorer, Finn Miro Aaltonen, who is under suspension after testing positive for a banned substance.

“Jayce is an extremely dangerous, versatile forward who stands out with a great skill set and gives us additional flexibility in the lineup,” said Kloten sports director Ricardo Schödler. “We are happy to have him on board for the stretch drive of the regular season.”

Kloten currently sits sixth in the National League standings with 65 points in 41 games.

Hawryluk signed in Nové Zámky in late October and recorded 27 points in 23 Slovak Extraliga games. He played with fellow Canadian ex-NHLer Nick Ritchie, who remains in Nové Zámky. His last game was on Friday, a 4-1 loss to Dukla Trenčín.

A native of Yorkton, Sask., Hawryluk played junior hockey for the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings and led the team in scoring his last year with 106 points, helping them to the league title and a spot in the Memorial Cup. He was picked in the second round, 32nd overall, by the Florida Panthers in 2014.

Between 2018 and 2021, Hawryluk played 98 NHL games for the Panthers, Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks, scoring 12 goals and adding 15 assists for 27 points with 41 penalty minutes. He has also played in Sweden for Skellefteå AIK and in Czechia for Bílí Tygři Liberec.

Internationally, Hawryluk played for Canada’s U-18 team in 2013-14, playing in both that season’s Ivan Hlinka Memorial and IIHF U-18 World Championship.
