The American defenseman sparked controversy at the World Championships after a devastating collision left Edmonton’s star blue-liner unconscious, resulting in an immediate ejection and a heated exit.
Seattle Kraken's Ryan Lindgren has been assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for his high hit on Edmonton Oilers' Evan Bouchard at the 2026 IIHF World Hockey Championships.
The play developed when Bouchard was rushing the puck into the Americans' end with Washington Capitals' Ryan Leonard on his back. As he skated over the blue line, Lindgren had a massive hit lined up. Unfortunately, the hit was high and left Bouchard unconscious on the ice.
He regained consciousness and was able to go to the room and hasn't yet returned. As for Lindgren, the play was reviewed, and he was kicked out of the game. He didn't necessarily agree with the call; on his way off the ice he was yelling at both the refs and Team Canada's bench.
This is not overly surprising that a matchup between Team Canada and Team USA would be this physical. The only real concern is the injuries that come with it.
We will keep you updated on Bouchard's status as more information becomes available.
