The New Jersey Devils dominated the first period of Friday’s game, scoring twice in the first period. In the second, Nico Hischier made it 3-0 and from there, the Devils cruised to a 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres before 16,913 at Prague’s O2 Arena.
“The first couple games of the season, you want to play simple and not make too many mistakes, and I think that’s what we saw out there, but I think our effort was great,” said Hischier. “But we’ve gotta be ready for tomorrow. Buffalo will try to have a bounce-back game and we’ll be ready for that.”
Hischier also spoke about the atmosphere in Prague, saying, “I think those games, you’ll remember the rest of your life,” about the goaltending of Jacob Markström, and about playing with linemates Tomáš Tatar and Dawson Mercer.
“It gives us momentum,” Hischier said about the Devils’ new goalie. “It’s great seeing him so confident back there.”
