© Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports - Oskar Steen not returning to Boston, agent says

The Boston Bruins are not interested in re-signing Oskar Steen, his agent Joakim Persson says according to Swedish website Hockeynews.se. The 26-year-old Swedish forward would like to find another NHL team but Sweden and Switzerland are also viable options. He becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

“Boston has given us permission to already start talking to other teams to see what interest there is. So those are the conversations we are in the middle of now, and I will soon go over to Vegas for the NHL Draft on July 28 and 29 and continue to have conversations and dialogues there,” said Persson, in a quote attributed to a Värmland's Folkblad article.

“Then we’ll see if there will be a continuation in the NHL or if it will be the SHL or Switzerland. Those are the three options available,” said Persson. “The same thing there, I have dialogue and contact with the teams in Europe that have contacted me. But the main focus is North America right now.”

According to the article, Swedish club Färjestad BK has directly expressed to Persson its interest in Steen. Steen is a native of Karlstad and played for Färjestad from childhood, eventually playing 186 SHL games with the club before heading to North America.

Over the past five seasons in the Boston organization, Steen has played 60 NHL games for the Bruins, recording four goals and four assists. The rest of the time has been in Providence of the AHL. His most productive season was 2021-22, when he recorded six points in 20 NHL games and 35 points in 49 AHL games.
