Tickets to the 2025 IIHF World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden and Herning, Denmark went on sale on Tuesday morning in Europe and, less than 12 hours later, organizers were claiming that over 100,000 single-game tickets had already been sold to the 64 games.

“The high ticket demand is incredibly gratifying, not only for us in the World Championship organizing committee, but also for all partners, teams, fans, and not the least for the people of Stockholm, who will get to experience a real hockey party in May,” Tony Wirehn, CEO of the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Stockholm, told SportBladet. “We knew there was a lot of interest and that hockey has a lot of fans around the world, but we are still pleasantly surprised by the enormous interest we encountered during the ticket release today.”

No breakdown between the two venues were given, but the Swedish media outlet did mention that the final in Stockholm is currently sold out, as are Sweden’s group-stage games against Canada and Finland. Games in Stockholm will be played at the recently-renovated Avicii Arena – formerly the Globe Arena – which now seats 13,500 for hockey.

“The demand is enormous now and some games are completely sold out, but there are still tickets left for some of Sweden’s and we will also release more tickets later,” Wirehn continued, noting that some tickets that are currently booked by partners will become available at a later date. “We therefore encourage everyone who is interested to keep an eye on the ticket page, follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletter where we will announce when we release more tickets.”

Sweden last co-hosted the Worlds in 2012 and 2013 with Helsinki, Finland, but attendance was disappointing both of those years with complaints of high ticket prices. The last time Sweden hosted a World Championship on its own was in Gothenburg, Karlstad and Jönköping.
