© Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports - Swedes name roster for Euro Hockey Tour, includes 12 NHLers; Erik Karlsson says yes to Worlds

Sweden’s roster for the upcoming IIHF World Championship is beginning to take shape, and the team has now named its roster for the final leg of the Euro Hockey Tour next weekend in Brno, Czechia.

Last week, Rasmus Dahlin and André Burakowsky were the first two NHLers to say yes to the Swedish team, while others declined for various reasons and still others were undecided. Since that time, several more have agreed to go, Matthias Ek of HockeyNews.se reports.

    Here is the Swedish roster:

Goaltenders: Samuel Ersson, Philadelphia, Filip Gustavsson, Minnesota, Jesper Wallstedt, Minnesota.

Defensemen: Lukas Bengtsson, Zug, Filip Berglund, Örebro, Jonas Brodin, Minnesota, Rasmus Dahlin, Buffalo, Oscar Fantenberg, Linköping, Tim Heed, Ambri-Piotta, Patrik Nemeth, Bern, Marcus Pettersson, Pittsburgh, Jesper Sellgren, Luleå.

Forwards: André Burakovsky, Seattle, Christoffer Ehn, Linköping, Joel Eriksson Ek, Minnesota, Alexander Holtz, New Jersey, Max Friberg, Frölunda, Linus Johansson, Färjestad, Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Örebro, Isac Lundeström, Anaheim, Joakim Nygård, Färjestad, Victor Olofsson, Buffalo, Marcus Sörensen, Friborg, Felix Unger Sörum, Leksand, Lukas Vejdemo, Leksand, Fabian Zetterlund, San Jose.

In addition, Erik Karlsson of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Marcus Johansson of the Minnesota Wild will not play in the weekend tournament but will join the team for the start of the World Championship.

“Now we are taking it even further with this squad, where we are bringing in reinforcements from the NHL and Switzerland,” said Swedish coach Sam Hallam. “My most important task will be to, together with the other coaches, set our game system for all the new faces. We will use the time in the best way to prepare for the World Championship opener against the USA on May 10.”

As part of next weekend’s tournament, the Swedes travel to Kloten, Switzerland to face the Swiss on Thursday, May 2 before moving on to Brno to face Czechia and Finland on May 4 and 5. The final leg of the Euro Hockey Tour is usually held in Czechia on the weekend before the start of the World Championship and is the final opportunity for the four competing teams to evaluate who will make the final cut.
